We are fortunate to offer several specialty positions within our department.
The Clintonville Police Department has had a K-9 unit for many years and is currently on its fourth dog. Our current K-9 is Thor, and his handler is Officer Cody Rollin. K9 Thor is a Dual Purpose German Shepherd born in Hungary on February 15, 2020. On May 27, 2022, K9 Thor then made his way to Iron Ridge, Wisconsin, and arrived at Jessiffany Canine Service, which specializes in training police K9s. Once K9 Thor was personally selected by the Clintonville Police Department, a five-week training course ensued with Thor and his handler. During the five-week Police K9 course, Thor was trained in Tracking, Article Searches, Criminal Apprehension, Officer Protection, and Narcotics. K9 Thor is trained in the detection of Marijuana, Methamphetamine, Heroin, Cocaine, and MDMA ( Ecstasy). After the five-week course, Thor passed all the State of Wisconsin certification requirements and began his first patrol shift in early October of 2022. Thor must maintain 16 hours of training a month per state requirements, along with yearly certification.
Our K-9 program does not utilize tax money to operate. We have a K-9 fund for annual costs to fund our program. Our biggest fundraiser of the year is our K-9 golf outing. Throughout the years, we have received generous donations from citizens and businesses. Without the community's support, we would not be able to have a K-9 Unit. Officer Rollin and K-9 Thor work the evening shifts. They also assist neighboring jurisdictions who request Thor's services.

The Waupaca County Sheriff's Office SWAT team is a multi-jurisdictional team comprised of members from the Sheriff's Department and officers from various agencies within Waupaca County. All members are required to attend specialized SWAT training when they join the team. The team possesses state-of-the-art equipment, including a Command Post, Armored Vehicle, Equipment Vehicle, various entry tools, and weapon delivery systems.
The primary goal of this team is to contain, control, and resolve situations as effectively and efficiently as possible while protecting life and minimizing the risk of injuries to all persons involved.
The Clintonville Police Department has two officers assigned to the Waupaca County SWAT Team.
The Clintonville Police Department is a Wisconsin ICAC Affiliate member. Sgt. Tyler Bartel attended the required ICAC investigations courses through the Wisconsin Department of Justice. Sgt. Bartel proactively investigates internet crimes against children and also investigates any case assigned to him through the DOJ. Since the mid-1990s, the Clintonville Police Department and the Clintonville Public School District have collaborated to create the position of School Resource Officer (SRO). The SRO, a figure of trust and support, wears many hats within the schools. Their most important role is building positive relationships with the students, a task they carry out with empathy and understanding. This relationship-building is key to their other duties, which include ensuring the safety of all members within the school, preventing crime, educating, serving as an informal counselor, and mentoring.
Officer Casey Ebert is currently assigned as the SRO.
During the school year, patrol officers are expected to conduct foot patrols within one of the school district buildings and St. Martin School. This has allowed our patrol officers to become familiar with our school building and interact with the students.
Several officers are certified as instructors through the Wisconsin Law Enforcement Standards Board. To become certified instructors, officers must attend an instructor development course prior to attending any instructor training course. Having instructors on staff allows us to provide in-house training to our staff.
